1998's Sega Saturn game "Paul おたキング Johnsonの野望" (Paul OtaKing Johnson's Ambition) went largely under the radar. Borrowing elements from such games as Dungeon Keeper and Populous, the game charged the player with guiding title character Paul Johnson to world domination, first through taking over England and then the world. Victory was based mainly around building lots of giant robots, and the game was notable for having over one hundred different animated cutscenes of Johnson getting killed in various ways should takeover plans fail.
