B) If the Bydo are still around, then the Rebels will be the least of the Empire's concern, and the Empire will be everyone else's least problem. As far as I know, the Bydo are also energy, so even deflectors wouldn't be able to protect their ships from becoming infected, just like Earth's fleet in the first part of the Bydo War. All it takes is one very arrogant fleet captain eager to make a name for himself to engage a Bydo fleet, and the Bydo might just have themselves a buffet!
